Fruit Facts
- More than 60 million tons of tomatoes are produced each year, making it one of the world’s most popular fruits.
- There are over 10,000 different varieties of tomatoes, with size, color, and flavor varying greatly among them.
- Another ingredient with a strong presence in the Bloody Caesar is Worcestershire sauce, which is a fermented sauce that is made using multiple ingredients including shallots, chilies, cloves, tamarinds, garlic, sugar, molasses, vinegar and salt. It’s said that it was originally created by accident by two chemists who were really trying to replicate a Bengali sauce recipe. After setting their failure aside, fermentation occurred and a few days later the chemists were delightfully surprised at their new tangy, meaty-flavored sauce.
